VP Music & Performance - Ervin Erickson

I became interested in singing as a child, being involved with church choirs and my high school choir and Boy’s Ensemble.

My first experience with organized quartets was attending Bush League Novice Quartet contest hosted by the Boyne City Chapter in 1956.  My desire to become involved with barbershopping was re-kindled when I saw the movie “Music Man” in 1957, featuring the Buffalo Bills Quartet.

Following college, my first job was with an insurance company in Seattle where the claims manager, for whom I worked, was a barbershopper.  I joined the Society and became active in 1964.  I was transferred to Denver in 1969 where I joined the Denver Mile High Chapter.  In Denver I had my first quartet experience as a member of the Silver Kings and Fourth Generation quartets.

Upon returning to Washington state in 1976, I became a member of the Snohomish County Windjammers Barbershop Chorus.  Over the next twenty- four years I sung with the Monroe Doctrine, Evergreen Express, Now and Then and the Unaccounted Four quartets.

Throughout my years of barbershopping, I have held the office of secretary and president several times and in 2007 will be the Music Vice President of the Gaylord chapter.

One of the highlights of my barbershopping life came recently when I sponsored my twelve year old grandson as a new member of our chorus in Gaylord.

Barbershopping has been a big part of my life and I plan to continue with this hobby as long as the old vocal chords hold out.
